ANNULAR SOLAR ECLIPSE PROGRAM

The first solar eclipse of 2009 occurs at the Moon's ascending node in western Capricornus. An annular eclipse will be visible from a wide track that traverses the Indian Ocean and western Indonesia. A partial eclipse will be seen within the much larger path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes the southern third of Africa, Madagascar, Australia except Tasmania, southeast India, Southeast Asia and Indonesia.

ANGKASA also take this opportunity to observe this annular solar eclipse at Lampung, Indonesia. Don’t miss to watch this phenomena right from Lampung through your computer. We’ll bring you the activities during this eclipse and also the images on 26th January 2009.

PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE PROGRAM

Here in Malaysia we would be able to see the moon obscuring approximately 82.6% of the Sun and it occurs just before sunset. We will have the opportunity to observe a partial solar eclipse from 4.30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. before sunset.

In general, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth so that the Sun is wholly or partially obscured. This can only happen during a new moon, when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as seen from the Earth (Figure 4).

In conjunction with Partial Solar Eclipse, National Space Agency (ANGKASA) will organize a Partial Solar Eclipse Daily Program from the 20th until the 30th of January 2009 at the National Planetarium Kuala Lumpur.

Let's join our Partial Solar Eclipse Program and grab the privilege to observe Partial Solar Eclipse Phenomenon in the evening of 26 January 2009!
